Gears of War: E-Day Release Date Rumors Get Icy

Recommended Posts

Fans of Gears of War may have to wait a little longer to dive back into the fight against the Locust Horde. Recent insider claims suggest a possible delay for the upcoming prequel title, Gears of War: E-Day.

E-Day's Elusive Release Window

Announced at the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase, E-Day generated excitement with its return to the franchise's roots. Taking place 14 years before the original Gears of War, players will once again control a young Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago. While the reveal was met with cheers, a release date remained frustratingly absent.

Rumors recently swirled of a potential 2025 launch, sparking hope for a swift return to Sera. However, a prominent Xbox insider has thrown cold water on that theory.

Klobrille Throws Shade on 2025 Release

Popular Xbox insider Klobrille cast doubt on a 2025 release via Twitter. While offering no specifics, they stated their sources suggest otherwise for E-Day's arrival. They did leave a glimmer of hope with a cryptic "we will see," implying a 2025 release isn't entirely out of the picture, just less likely.

This contradicts a report from The Verge's Tom Warren, who previously claimed to have heard whispers of a 2025 release, potentially even before Fable's reboot. However, Warren himself acknowledged the possibility of this information being outdated, with Microsoft potentially granting The Coalition more development time.

A Delay for a Stronger E-Day?

While a delay might disappoint eager fans, it could ultimately benefit the game. More development time allows The Coalition to polish E-Day and deliver the best possible Gears of War experience. Patience may be rewarded with a more refined and satisfying return to Sera.

We'll have to wait for official word from Microsoft or The Coalition to know for sure. Until then, speculation and rumors will continue to churn the rumor mill.
